Atlanta – October 08, 2026 -- Sercomm Corporation (TWSE: 5388) is making its RDK Video Accelerator set-top box, built on the Broadcom BCM74116 chipset, available as reference hardware for application developers, the company said, deepening its collaboration with Broadcom and expanding the hardware options available to the RDK open-source community.
Device will also serve as a YouTube reference platform
The Sercomm 74116 platform is designed for application development, validation and testing on RDK, targeting next-generation video entertainment, interactive TV, cloud gaming and AI-enabled services. Beyond its role as an RDK reference device, the hardware will also function as a YouTube reference device.
Hardware specs combine edge AI, Wi-Fi 7 and post-quantum security
The 4K streaming receiver integrates LPDDR5 memory, a neural processing unit for edge AI applications, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 antennas, and Matter and Thread compatibility for smart home connectivity. It also includes Post-Quantum Cryptography to protect digital assets and user privacy, along with intelligent super scaling, multi-view displays, and support for both Standard Dynamic Range and High Dynamic Range video and graphics.
Daniel Whalen, Chief Commercial Officer of Sercomm, said the dedicated open-environment is intended to accelerate application validation and smooth the path toward deployment on RDK-based consumer devices, while giving service providers a flexible foundation for integrating LPDDR5 memory, edge AI and current wireless standards into their products.
RDK standardization spans GPON, DOCSIS, DSL and fixed wireless networks
RDK open-source software standardizes core functions used in broadband and video devices, including audio/video playback, conditional access, DRM, networking, captions, emergency alerts, voice control and telemetry. The standardization allows service providers to develop and deploy a consistent set of applications across geographies, hardware, SoC suppliers, and access networks spanning GPON, DOCSIS, DSL and fixed wireless.
Lewis Brewster, Vice President of Marketing for Wireless Broadband Communication at Broadcom, said the Sercomm 74116 platform delivers a scalable solution for both the developer community and the operator market through the RDK video accelerator collaboration.
RDK leadership calls hardware access a barrier removed for developers
Jason Briggs, President and GM of RDK, said Sercomm has been an active member of the RDK community for years and that providing ready access to current, high-performance hardware removes a real barrier for developers building, testing and validating applications on RDK. He noted the benefit extends across application developers, silicon and device partners, and service providers deploying new video experiences to customers.
