Varennes – October 13, 2026 -- TCL Asset Group Inc. has been awarded the contract to manage the sale of surplus assets from a never-operational waste and biomass processing facility in Varennes, Quebec, with an auction scheduled for late October 2026.
Site built in 2022-2024 never ran and will become a low-carbon methanol plant
The facility sits on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Southwestern Quebec. It was built during 2022-2024 but was never operational. The acquired Recyclage Carbone Varennes Waste/Biomass site will be developed into North America's first large-scale low-carbon methanol production facility. TCL is managing the sale on behalf of StormFisher.
Sale covers waste and biomass lines, dryer, MRO and spares
Offered assets include an unused municipal mixed solid waste processing line, a biomass processing line and a material dryer. The package also covers new magnets, dust collectors, conveyor systems, pumps, motors, valves, general process MRO, new inventory and spare parts. Some assets are installed, while others remain in their original crates.
Buyers also have an opportunity to purchase or lease the building, land and equipment in place, along with development land around the site.
One-year sale program combines private negotiated deals and an October auction
The one-year project starts with Private Negotiated Sales, which begin immediately, followed by the auction in late October 2026. TCL expects select high-demand lots to sell by private negotiated sale in the short term and urges interested parties to register early.
Inspections are by appointment only at the Varennes site ahead of the auction. Asset listings, photographs and condition notes are available online.
TCL CEO Terrance Jacobs said the plant offers buyers in waste processing, recycling, biomass and pellet production a never-commissioned facility with zero operating hours. He cited more than six decades of TCL experience in plant closures and facility dispositions across North and South America.
