San Jose – September 28, 2026 -- Tensor has achieved ISO/SAE 21434 certification with zero non-conformities, clearing a cybersecurity audit conducted by Applus+ IDIADA on the engineering processes governing its Robocar platform.
Certification aligns Tensor with UN R155 cybersecurity type approval across 60-plus countries
The zero-findings result confirms Tensor's Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) meets the requirements underlying UN Regulation No. 155, which governs cybersecurity type approval in markets including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan and South Korea. The certification opens the path toward vehicle homologation and UN R155 type approval in those regions.
Audit covers edge-first architecture designed to operate without persistent cloud connectivity
Applus+ IDIADA's review examined Tensor's onboard supercomputing stack, which processes environmental perception, trajectory planning and biometric authentication natively on the vehicle rather than through cloud-dependent systems used by legacy connected EVs. Seven core process areas were audited: lifecycle-wide security engineering with full traceability from vehicle goals to component tests; vehicle- and ECU-level Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA); a Vehicle Security Operations Center with intrusion detection and tiered incident escalation; Tensor's proprietary cryptographically controlled over-the-air update platform; penetration and fuzz testing linked to TARA-derived requirements; a structured supplier cybersecurity governance framework; and cybersecurity checks integrated into end-of-line manufacturing and provisioning.
CEO frames security-by-design as a defense of owner data against corporate cloud streaming
Dr. Jay Xiao, Founder and CEO of Tensor, said the Robocar is engineered to answer solely to its owner rather than continuously stream data to corporate clouds, and that the zero-findings audit demonstrates decentralized, onboard AI supercomputing can be built with cybersecurity engineered in from the outset.
Alejandro Manilla of Applus+ IDIADA said the assessment provided an independent evaluation of Tensor's cybersecurity processes against ISO/SAE 21434 requirements and confirmed compliance with the applicable standard clauses.
Certification extends to Tensor's licensable Physical AI platform for automakers and Tier-1 suppliers
Beyond the Robocar, Tensor licenses a full-stack AI driving technology platform to automakers and Tier-1 suppliers through its Autonomous Driving as a Service (ADaaS) model. The certification strengthens the cybersecurity foundation across that platform's vehicle architecture, software, onboard computing, OTA update system and vehicle security operations. Tensor, founded in Silicon Valley in 2016, operates offices in San Jose, Barcelona, Singapore and Dubai.
