DB HiTek Completes 8-Inch 1,200V SiC MOSFET Reliability Qualification

Seoul – September 12, 2026 -- DB HiTek has completed reliability qualification for its 1,200 V silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET process on 8-inch (200 mm) wafers, establishing what it calls the world's first complete 8-inch SiC foundry process flow. The South Korean pure-play foundry targets volume production in 2027.

Second-generation PDK clears reliability testing with 2.5 mΩ•cm2 on-resistance

The qualified second-generation process achieves a specific on-resistance (Rsp) of 2.5 mΩ•cm2 or less and a threshold voltage of 3 V or higher at an 18 V on-state gate voltage. DB HiTek is now supplying customers with Process Design Kits (PDKs) for its first- and second-generation 1,200 V SiC MOSFET processes, enabling design, manufacturing, electrical characterization and reliability qualification through a single foundry platform.

Third-generation PDK targets 2.3 mΩ•cm2 resistance, arrives in November

DB HiTek is qualifying a third-generation process aiming for a specific on-resistance of 2.3 mΩ•cm2 or less at 18 V gate voltage, alongside a short-circuit withstand time of at least 2.5 μs in the short-circuit safe operating area. The company plans to release the corresponding PDK once qualification concludes.

PDK access cuts development time by more than a year

DB HiTek said the PDKs reduce resource requirements during early development stages and accelerate prototype fabrication, shortening customer product development timelines by more than one year. Process preparations and access for longstanding customers are scheduled for the third quarter of this year, with the foundry service opening to all customers in the second quarter of 2027.

Move responds to industry shift from 6-inch to 8-inch SiC wafers

While 6-inch wafers currently dominate the SiC market, major global semiconductor manufacturers are transitioning to 8-inch wafers to improve production efficiency and cost competitiveness. SiC power semiconductors serve electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and industrial power equipment due to their performance advantage over silicon in high-temperature, high-voltage conditions. A DB HiTek representative said the qualification demonstrates the company has secured the core process technology and manufacturing foundation required to offer the world's first 8-inch SiC foundry service.
