CenTrio Advances 25-MW Electric Boiler to Cut Seattle Emissions 60%

Seattle – October 14, 2026 -- CenTrio is advancing engineering design for a 25-megawatt electric boiler at its Western Avenue plant, a project that could cut emissions by more than 60%, or about 42,000 tons a year, at maximum utilization.

The boiler will deliver roughly 85,000 pounds of steam per hour to buildings on CenTrio's Seattle district energy system. It is the first phase of the plant's decarbonization plan.

Construction is planned for 2027, with operations about two years later

CenTrio has engaged Affiliated Engineers (AEI) to complete the engineering design. It is working with Seattle City Light to secure the power the boiler requires. Construction will begin after engineering, permitting, utility coordination and final approvals are complete. The boiler is expected to be operational roughly two years after construction starts.

I&M Seeks Approval for 1,520 MW Gas Plant at Rockport, Indiana

Fort Wayne – October 12, 2026 -- Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has asked the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to approve a 1,520 megawatt (MW) natural gas combined cycle plant at its Rockport site, one of the largest utility construction projects in Indiana.

I&M expects power demand in its Indiana service area to more than double by the early 2030s. The new Rockport Energy Center is meant to add generation capacity to meet that load.

I&M targets summer 2030 start-up, with an IURC ruling expected in early 2027

I&M filed for a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN). The filing details the construction timeline, the allocation of construction and operating costs, regional transmission capacity and environmental factors.

The company anticipates an IURC decision in early 2027. Construction would begin in 2027, and the plant is expected to be operational in summer 2030.

Offshore Wind FIDs Hit 2.1 GW in 2026 as Financing Costs Bite

Oslo – October 12, 2026 -- Only 2.1 GW of offshore wind capacity has reached final investment decision (FID) so far in 2026, while more than 12 GW is expected to enter operation this year, according to TGS | 4C's latest quarterly Global Market Overview.

TGS | 4C forecasts 5.6 GW will reach FID by year-end. That would make 2026 the second-lowest year for offshore wind investment decisions since 2020.

Consent awards of 22.2 GW point to the second-highest year on record

Final consents are advancing strongly, with 22.2 GW forecast to be awarded in 2026. Early-phase development assets and projects under construction are both progressing, but developers remain cautious about committing capital to the next generation of projects.

Global offshore wind capacity stands at around 92.7 GW in operation, with a further 41.2 GW under construction and 7.1 GW at FID.

Tilbury – October 12, 2026 -- National Grid's tunnel boring machine (TBM) Caroline completed a 2.2km drive beneath the River Thames 49 days ahead of the original programme, ending the tunnelling phase of the Grain to Tilbury project, part of The Great Grid Upgrade.

The breakthrough came on Sunday 27 September. Caroline excavated a new high-voltage electricity cable tunnel between Tilbury in Essex and Gravesend in Kent.

Caroline installs more than 10,000 segments across nearly 1,700 rings

The tunnel lining consists of more than 10,000 concrete segments assembled into nearly 1,700 tunnel rings. In her most productive month, Caroline advanced 926 metres and installed 712 lining rings. Peak weekly progress reached 229 metres, and the best single day delivered 41 metres of excavation and 31 installed rings in 24 hours.
